Shortsea Promotion Centre in Europe

The maritime industry court, the European Comission (DG TREN), and the Council of Ministers have politically supported the creation in every members states. Organized and financed on a national basis, these bureau are aiming at promoting shortsea shipping by informing users and other decision-maker on the potency of shortsea shipping. It deals with improving the image of the maritime mode by relying on its key factor of success and by facilitating access to the right information, to the right person. it will help shortsea to be integrated in logistics chain. The Bureau de Promotoin du Shortsea Shipping is involved in the European Shortsea Network

Structure and organization of BP2S

It is an association said "1901", gathering state organization, professionnal organization, and transport companies of all sectors: shippers, freight forwarder, road hauler, ports, shipowners and maritime agents.
A neutral bureau, giving to all profession some information and a acompaniment focused on the traffic shift from congested road to the friendly environment maritime transport, with the support of road users and partnership as way of working.

Objectives and actions

  • Give to state authorities (central administration, local collectivities) and some companies (transport service provider, shippers, operators...) a exchange plateform and reflexion on the potencies of shortsea shipping at the local, national and european level
  • Holding updated a data base concerning shortsea service to / from french port.
  • Identify freight that can be shift from road to sea or multimodal with a sea leg
  • Increase the knowledge on the economical condition to manage to launch a maritime service (failure and success stories in France and Europe), on bottlenecks and solutions
  • Inform public concerned by the evolution of the legal, economical, technical environment (documentary watch, studies...)
