Nova Marine Carriers and Carisbrooke Shipping team up amid slowly recovering freight rates and calls for consolidation within the sector
Carisbrooke has a focus on the UK, northwest Europe and Mediterranean voyages.
NOVA Marine Carriers and Carisbrooke Shipping have agreed to join forces from January 1, leading to an expansion of their commercial shortsea dry bulk activities.
Nova Marine is based in Switzerland, but Carisbrooke is based in the UK.
The combined activities, which will see all chartering and operations from Nova Marine's headquarters, will have a fleet of about 60 vessels, ranging from 5,000 dwt to 15,000 dwt.
Nova Marine's main trades are on the Baltic to north Europe and Mediterranean to Black Sea routes, while Carisbrooke has a focus on the UK, northwest Europe and Mediterranean voyages carrying commodities including grains, fertilisers, coal and forest products.
Last month, Gearbulk teamed up with Grieg Star to form an expanded dry bulk company amid weak markets, heeding calls from shipowners’ association BIMCO, which advised that the industry must brace for consolidation.
